Comparable quote process

CoreField Sourcing factory quote comparison

Buyers who looked up kirby building systems still need a neutral request if the goal is alternative factory quotations. CoreField Sourcing organizes that request. The service does not claim authorized dealer status and does not offer the referenced brand as a product for sale.

What each supplier is asked to answer

Frame elevation with eave height and bay spacing called out

Geometry before unit price

Each quotation should restate length, width, eave height, roof slope, bay spacing and clear span. If an interior column is added, the note belongs beside the price, because the usable floor changed. Multi-bay frames and clear-span frames are different products even when the footprint matches.

Envelope sample board for roof and wall assemblies

Envelope, openings and coatings

Roof panel, wall panel, liner, trim, doors and glazing need a list. Insulated metal panel is not the same scope as a single-skin sheet plus a field-installed blanket. Ask for the coating system and the environment the supplier assumed, including coastal or industrial exposure when the site has it.

Delivery truck and crane responsibility split on a checklist

Freight and erection boundary

State the destination ZIP, access limits, who unloads, and whether a crane is in the supplier number. Partial shipments should be allowed or refused in writing. Installation quotes that exclude bolts, sealant, or a second mobilization will not match a turnkey figure.

Project basis
Use and occupancyWarehouse, workshop, hangar or other named use, plus any mezzanine or future expansion bay.
JurisdictionCity or county, code edition, and the authority having jurisdiction. Compliance is not stated until those are known.
Loads and steel description
Environmental loadsDesign wind speed, exposure, ground snow load, seismic design category, and live, dead and collateral loads the buyer can already support.
Member descriptionPrimary frame, secondary framing, purlin, girt, and whether the supplier will submit a steel grade and weld reference with the quote.
Commercial boundary
Scope labelShell, delivered, installed or turnkey, with foundation interface and utilities marked included, excluded or buyer-supplied.
Commercial notesQuantity, requested window, currency, and whether the figure is per building or for the whole order. Optional budget is a buyer target, not a promised result.

Questions that change the comparison

Scope

Why can two steel building prices not be ranked on the first page?

One page may price a shell at the plant gate and the other may include freight, erection and a slab design. Until both pages use the same inclusions, the lower number is not evidence of a lower project cost.

Who accepts a substituted frame or panel?

The buyer and the licensed project professionals accept or reject substitutions. CoreField Sourcing can list the deviation. The desk does not stamp drawings or replace the engineer of record.

Documents

Which standards should be named in the request?

Where they apply, ask the supplier to identify the code edition, ASCE 7 load basis, AISC 360 design basis, and AWS D1.1 welding basis used for the quoted system. Those names are a filing list. They are not a statement that this desk or an unnamed plant already holds an accreditation.

What if the buyer only has a brand brochure?

Use the brochure to extract span, height and options, then rewrite them as project requirements. A brochure photo is not a specification, and a logo search is not a purchase order for that brand.

Send one brief to start factory quotations

  • Use, dimensions, loads and jurisdiction travel with the request.
  • Quantity, destination and timing are required before schedule comments.
  • Exclusions stay visible beside every number.
  • Optional budget and supplier preference are buyer inputs, not ratings.

Read the procurement roadmap if specification choices are still open, or return to building options to name a product family.
